ResMed Corp. has released the Mirage SoftGel nasal mask, the latest in its line of nasal interfaces for use in the treatment of sleep apnea.
The SoftGel is designed to offer exceptional comfort and versatility for patients and healthcare providers.
As part of ResMed’s new ConvertAble Series, the SoftGel features an interchangeable frame which is also compatible with the high-performance Mirage Activa LT.
“We believe the versatility of [the SoftGel] will not only help our customers improve patient compliance and engagement by offering more choice and comfort, but will also support business efficiency and cost savings by helping to achieve more successful titrations and reducing the need for costly swap-outs and callbacks,” said JC Kyrillos, Senior Vice President of Sales, Marketing and Clinical Education for the Americas.
Patients have indicated a strong preference for the SoftGel over other nasal gel masks, according to a company-issued press release.
According to ResMed’s press releaser, in market research trials, eight out of ten patients rated the SoftGel as more comfortable and durable than competitive masks. In the product testing, three out of four patients rated their overall quality of sleep better with the SoftGel, ResMed noted in its press release.
The SoftGel provides a soft touch with strong stability for a comfortable, effective seal. Its unique cushion includes a blue gel layer for strong support and a clear gel layer that gently conforms to individual facial contours, making it easy, quick, and intuitive to fit.
The mask also features ResMed’s classic MicroFit dial, which allows patients to adjust their frame easily for added control and customization. An array of vents diffuses air away from the patient and the bed partner for ultra-quiet therapy so no one’s sleep is disrupted.
The SoftGel incorporates a number of additional special features that enhance convenience for patients, including: Set-and-Forget headgear clips for easy attachment and removal; a 360° rotating elbow to accommodate multiple sleeping positions; and a comprehensive user support package with a travel bag and user guide.
Clinicians and durable medical equipment providers will enjoy numerous benefits from the SoftGel mask. The interchangeable and shared components with the Activa LT will promote inventory efficiencies and cost savings, making it easier to replace one mask with the other if necessary.
The durability and quality of the SoftGel is designed to help ensure consistent performance, resulting in fewer patient callbacks. Intuitive fitting features will reduce staff training and patient fitting time, and will help promote early therapy acceptance among patients with a comfortable, first-time fit.
“With the SoftGel, we wanted to provide a high-performance nasal gel option with the renowned quality and durability of a ResMed mask,” added Kyrillos.
“This new product answers the market need for flexible options in the gel mask category,” Kyrillos added.
