ResMed releases quiet, lightweight Mirage Activa LT nasal mask

introduced the Mirage Activa LT nasal mask today, calling it a versatile high-performance mask with increased ease-of-use and new comfort features, along with a quiet, lightweight design. The Activa LT is an everyday nasal mask to helps ensure user comfort, and should help drive compliance.

The Activa LT is designed to accommodate a patient’s unique needs to provide a comfortable, quiet therapy environment. The compact ActiveCell cushion automatically adjusts to varying sleep positions and pressure modes, while the floating seal reduces facial marks and eye irritation produced by headgear tension and mask-leak.

“As an everyday nasal mask, the Activa LT offers a versatile solution for improving patient compliance with a wide range of patients who want quiet, hassle-free therapy in an unobtrusive mask … [that] is is exceptionally compact and quiet,” said Elaine McGhee, ResMed’s patient interfaces product manager. She also noted the new design has a slender frame, compact cushion, and offers a clear field of vision.

“We believe the Activa LT will enable clinicians to improve patient care and compliance, as well as reduce time spent on mask-fitting and training with first time fit for every patient,” McGhee added.

Based on ResMed’s anthropometric database, the company says the new design should fit more than 91 percent of people using xPAP nasal mask.

In addition to enhanced comfort and quiet, the Activa LT offers numerous ease-of-use features designed to promote long-term comfort and compliance. A MicroFit dial enables users to fine-tune their fit to their preferences with easy, one-handed adjustment. Significantly fewer mask parts make assembly, disassembly, and maintenance simple and convenient, and new clips allowing for quick removal.

According to ResMed’s specifications on the mask, the new design is 49 percent quieter and 70 percent more diffused than the Mirage Activa dispersing air quietly, which is aimed at improving comfort for the patient and their bed partner. ResMed tested noise diffusion using the industry standard, , and for the acoustics determination, CPAP pressure was set at 10cm/H2O.

What is compact ActiveCell?

Originally introduced with the original Mirage Activa, and now more streamlined on the Mirage Activa LT, ResMed’s ActiveCell technology combines the superior seal and comfort of Mirage dual-wall cushion design with an inflatable chamber that expands and contracts during therapy, providing a unique, active seal and dynamic defense against mask leak.

The ActiveCell functions as an independent suspension, keeping the cushion in place for a stable fit that adjusts to suit user movements and therapy pressure changes throughout the night.
