Philips Respironics introduces CPAP nasal mask, the EasyLife nasal mask, with auto-seal technology

Philips Respironics has introduced the EasyLife nasal mask for the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).

The EasyLife is a nasal mask that is used to deliver positive airway pressure in the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea for patients weighing more than 66 pounds.

Philips appoints executive for sleep business

Royal Philips Electronics has appointed Eoghan O’Lionaird to lead Philips Home Healthcare Solutions’ Sleep business as Senior Vice President and General Manager, effective immediately.

“We are delighted to have Eoghan [pronounced “Owen”] take over the reins of our sleep business,” says Don Spence, Chief Executive Officer, Philips Home Healthcare Solutions.

Embla to buy Covidien’s sleep diagnostics business

Embla and Covidien have entered into a definitive agreement under which Embla will acquire Covidien’s Sleep Diagnostic business.

This includes the sleep diagnostic products sold under the Sandman brand name. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed. Completion of the sale is subject to customary closing conditions.

Philips releases FitLife mask for hard-to-fit apneics

Royal Philips Electronics today announced the introduction of the FitLife total face mask for the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). The mask, which covers the face from above the eyebrows to below the lower lip, is a solution for patients who have difficulty wearing conventional masks or who simply prefer a clear line of sight. The mask is being launched first in the U.S. and will be available globally in the third quarter of 2009.

Nasal bridge breakdown, facial irregularities, facial hair, dentures, and claustrophobia are challenges face when trying to successfully achieve compliance for effective therapy and comfort.

was 306,340,710. Sleep researchers estimate approximately seven percent
of the population suffers from obstructive sleep apnea. Using that
estimate, there are potentially 21,443,850 apneics in the U.S.

was 6,777,286,604. Sleep researchers estimate approximately seven percent
