Brief overview for those seeking help
There are many individuals who are either uninsured or under-insured in the United States, and some of those individuals have been diagnosed with apnea. Because of a lack of adequate insurance, most of these individuals cannot have a sleep study performed, or, later, obtain the necessary equipment or supplies needed to properly treat their apnea.
Under the guidelines adopted by the Awake In America Board of Directors, incomplete applications cannot be considered and will be rejected without processing, so please ensure the appropriate application is complete prior to mailing it.
The application must be submitted via U.S. Mail by the individual seeking the equipment or a sleep study. To qualify, the individual requesting the equipment must have been diagnosed with a sleep disorder, and must also have a demonstrated need for the equipment and/or supplies, such as CPAP devices, bi-level devices, masks, and other items. To qualify for the Sleep Study Donation Program the individual must have a prescription from a licensed health care provider.
Members of the xPAP Donation and Relief Program Committee never see any personally-identifiable information when reviewing the applications. This allows for all members of the xPAP Donation and Relief Program to review the applications based solely on the merits of the information provided, but also allows a review by all on the xPAP Donation and Relief Program, without regard for possible conflicts. One conflict that is avoided by employing this method of review is the chance of a member of the xPAP Donation and Relief Program possibly knowing an applicant.
Information for members of Medi-Share, Christian Care Ministry, and medical sharing society members
Individuals with membership, who participate, who benefit, and/or who are involved with programs identified below, or similar programs, often religion/faith-based, and of any religion/faith, must list the program under which you are enrolled, the organization which you’re affiliated with, and have a letter showing the anticipated “cost-sharing” the organization may provide if you’re approved for our program. A list of programs such as as the ones described include:
- any “faith-based alternatives to health insurance”
- any faith-based medical or health charity
- any “faithcare” organization
- any “faith care” organization
- any “medical cost share organization”
- any “medical cost sharing society”
- any “medical and disability cooperatives”
- any “medical sharing society”
- Blessed Assurance
- Blessed Assurance Bulletin
- Christian Brotherhood
- Christian Care Ministry
- Christian Healthcare Ministries
- Florida-based “Medi-Share” program
- Samaritan Ministries
- or any other organization where you contribute money (funds) or others contribute money (funds) to help pay for the medical or health expenses of others in the organization.
- If you are a member of any type of organization described above — though perhaps using other terms to describe itself, and of any religion — and you do not disclose this information upfront, it will be viewed, when discovered, as fraud. Providing misleading information will likely lead to criminal and civil prosecution.
- While membership or participation in any of these programs does not eliminate anyone from participation in or approval for any of Awake In America’s programs, full disclosure — the same as for everyone else with traditional insurance — is a must. Any misrepresentation will be seen as a willful act of fraud, with appropriate legal measures taken to resolve the matter.
All equipment awards, including fee waiver and fee-reduction requests, are based solely on demonstrated need. See the Awake In America’s Non-Discriminatory Statement for the organization’s commitment to equal treatment.
The decision of Awake In America’s Board of Trustees, based on the recommendations of the xPAP Donation and Relief Program, is final.
Helping others by donating
Awake In America accepts cash donations, as well as equipment donations to supply the needs for the xPAP Donation and Relief Program, and is able to provide receipts to donors for tax purposes.
If you’re considering making an equipment donation, please be aware that Awake In America requires all donated items be in good, usable, and working condition. We cannot accept items that need repair, and any such items will be disposed of upon inspection.
Awake In America cannot advise on the acceptability of any item prior to receipt.
Making a cash donation to Awake In America
Awake In America, as a non-profit organization, as well as our xPAP Donation and Relief Program, rely on the generous donations of individuals and corporations to help fund our operations. Funding for the xPAP Donation and Relief Program is a critical mission, and one that is grossly under-funded. To make a cash donation expressly for the program, please write “Funding for xPAP Relief Program” in the Memo section of your check or money order.
If you have any questions not answered by this page, the appropriate Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) files (linked above) for the relief programs, or the general information page for the programs, feel free to contact us using our contact form.
