Study shows Dream-Enacting Behavior Is Common In Healthy Young Adults

A recently published study shows dream-enacting behaviors are common in healthy, young adults, and the prevalence of specific behaviors differs between men and women.

Results indicate that 98 percent of subjects (486 out of 495) reported experiencing one of seven subtypes of dream-enacting behavior at least rarely in the last year.

Is a sleep disorder a warning sign for Parkinson’s or Alzheimer’s?

Rapid eye movement sleep behavior disorder (RBD) appears to be a predictor of neurodegenerative disease in more than 50 percent of cases, according to a recent study

According to the latest study by Dr. Ronald Postuma, of the Research Institute of the MUHC, and Dr. Jacques Montplaisir, of the Université de Montréal and the Hospital of the Sacred Heart of Montreal, 52.4 per cent of patients with Rapid eye movement sleep (REM) sleep behavior disorder develop a neurodegenerative disease within 12 years following their initial diagnosis.

Many narcoleptics with cataplexy have eating disorders

The majority of patients with narcolepsy/cataplexy experience a number of symptoms of eating disorders, with an irresistible craving for food and binge eating as the most prominent features, according to a study published in the March 1 issue of the journal Sleep.

Study authors Hal Droogleever Fortuyn, M.D., and Sebastiaan Overeem, M.D., of the Radboud University Nijmegen Medical Center in The Netherlands, focused on 60 patients who had been diagnosed with narcolepsy with cataplexy (N/C) who were recruited from specialized sleep centers and 120 healthy controls.
