Respironics’ CEO leaving after 10 years of service

John L. Miclot, CEO of Philips Home Healthcare Solutions, announced during the Medtrade Keynote Panel discussion last week that he had resigned from Respironics/Philips, effective in two weeks.

Miclot will head up Clearwater, Fla-based CCS Medical, a nationwide provider of various home care staples such as insulin pumps, incontinence products, and respiratory equipment.

Royal Philips Electronics does buyout of Respironics for $5.1 billion

Respironics, Inc. has announced it’s entered into a merger agreement which will allow Royal Philips Electronics (Philips) to acquire all of the outstanding shares of Respironics for USD 66.00 in cash per share, or a total purchase price of approximately USD 5.1 billion. The offer price represents a premium of approximately 31 percent over Respironics’ average closing share price for a period of 30 trading days ending at market closing on December 20, 2007.

Respironics acquires Apollo Light Systems

Respironics, Inc. announced it has acquired all outstanding shares of Apollo Light Systems, Inc., a 20-year-old, privately-held company and a leading manufacturer of light therapy systems for melatonin suppression and circadian rhythm sleep disorders.

As of May 2, 2009 at 9:47 p.m. (-0500) (ET), the U.S. population
was 306,340,710. Sleep researchers estimate approximately seven percent
of the population suffers from obstructive sleep apnea. Using that
estimate, there are potentially 21,443,850 apneics in the U.S.

As of May 2, 2009 at 9:47 p.m. (-0500) (ET), the world population
was 6,777,286,604. Sleep researchers estimate approximately seven percent
of the population suffers from obstructive sleep apnea. Using that
estimate, there are potentially 474,410,062 apneics in the world.
