Despite recently mandated reductions in medical student workload hours, a new study reveals the widespread presence of job stress, and sleep deprivation among physicians and nurses in teaching hospitals. A new study shows both obesity and a large belly appear to increase the risk of developing restless legs syndrome (RLS), a common sleep disorder characterized by an irresistible urge to move and kick your legs.
The research was published in Neurology, the medical journal of the American Academy of Neurology. It is estimated that five-to-10 percent of adults in the United States have RLS and the disorder often has a substantial impact on sleep, daily activities, and quality of life.

A fruit fly’s immune system can tell time, and how hard it punches back against infections depends on whether the fly is snoozing or cruising. The discovery could have implications for human health, well, says researchers at the Stanford University School of Medicine.
Working with jerry-rigged, light-bulb-laden shoeboxes to manipulate the flies’ daily cycle and with syringes small enough to inject measured amounts of germs into the wee winged ones, the investigators have shown that the insects’ immune response waxes and wanes with the diurnal oscillations called circadian rhythms.

My life has been a long sleepy saga. I’ve lived a life constantly feeling sleepy. I was sleepy during my wedding. I was sleep during my honeymoon. I was sleepy when my children were born.

Other times I fell asleep while waiting for signals about commodity trades, including some worth from $200 million dollars and up.
