PA State Rep. Robert Donatucci, 58, dead from apnea

PA State Rep. Robert Donatucci was elected to his 16th House term last week and died in his sleep this week. His doctors said sleep apnea was cause.

Negative effects of sleep restriction may linger even after one full night of recovery sleep

Study is the first experiment to systematically examine the relationship of the duration of sleep dose to the recovery of neurobehavioral deficits from sustained sleep restriction.

A study in the Aug. 1 issue of the journal Sleep suggests that a dose of extra sleep on the weekend may be good medicine for adults who repeatedly stay up too late or wake up too early during the work week.

Young children obtain more sleep than children in Asian countries

Young children in predominantly Caucasian countries obtain more overall sleep, have earlier bedtimes, and are less likely to room-share than young children in predominantly Asian countries.

The results indicate substantial differences in sleep patterns in young children throughout the world, according to a research abstract presented at Sleep 2008, the 22nd Annual Meeting of the Associated Professional Sleep Societies.

Migraines in children may be sleep disorder tell-tale signs

Children with a migraine headache are more likely to have sleep disorders, such as obstructive sleep apnea and lack of sleep, than children without a migraine, according to a research abstract on the effects of headaches on children’s sleep patterns at Sleep 2008.

For this study, 90 children with headache and sleep problems underwent a polysomnogram, a sleep test that monitors the brain, eye movements, muscle activity, heart rhythm, and breathing. Of the participants, 60 had a migraine, 11 had a chronic daily headache, six had a tension headache and 13 had a non-specific headache.

was 306,340,710. Sleep researchers estimate approximately seven percent
of the population suffers from obstructive sleep apnea. Using that
estimate, there are potentially 21,443,850 apneics in the U.S.

was 6,777,286,604. Sleep researchers estimate approximately seven percent
of the population suffers from obstructive sleep apnea. Using that
