Philips Respironics has released its newest nasal mask, the ComfortGel Blue nasal mask, used in the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).
Based on the company’s blue gel masks, the product is designed to help patient comfort and compliance.

Royal Philips Electronics today announced the introduction of the FitLife total face mask for the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). The mask, which covers the face from above the eyebrows to below the lower lip, is a solution for patients who have difficulty wearing conventional masks or who simply prefer a clear line of sight. The mask is being launched first in the U.S. and will be available globally in the third quarter of 2009.
Nasal bridge breakdown, facial irregularities, facial hair, dentures, and claustrophobia are challenges face when trying to successfully achieve compliance for effective therapy and comfort.

Respironics has issued a voluntary recall on two models of its SmartMonitor 2 Infant Apnea monitor after being notified by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration of potential problems.
The company issued a voluntary Class 1 recall, which are the most serious type of recall and involve situations in which there is a reasonable probability that use of these products will cause serious injury or death.

My life has been a long sleepy saga. I’ve lived a life constantly feeling sleepy. I was sleepy during my wedding. I was sleep during my honeymoon. I was sleepy when my children were born.
I managed to destroy to fulfilling careers without ever really getting to enjoy them because I was always sleepy. So sleepy, in fact, I would fall asleep while holding open houses. Other times I fell asleep while waiting for signals about commodity trades, including some worth from $200 million dollars and up.

Royal Philips Electronics launched a program aimed at the trucking industry with hopes of increasing awareness of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), a potentially fatal sleep-breathing disorder that can negatively affect drivers and impact trucking companies.
Operated by Philips Respironics, the “Sleep Well, Drive Safe” program is designed to educate trucking company owners and create greater awareness of possible ways to reduce drowsy driving.

John L. Miclot, CEO of Philips Home Healthcare Solutions, announced during the Medtrade Keynote Panel discussion last week that he had resigned from Respironics/Philips, effective in two weeks.
Miclot will head up Clearwater, Fla-based CCS Medical, a nationwide provider of various home care staples such as insulin pumps, incontinence products, and respiratory equipment.
