Study findings published on the Jan. 1, 2011 support these anecdotal reports, showing that three weeks of CPAP therapy significantly reduced fatigue and increased energy.

Disruption of two genes that control circadian rhythms can lead to diabetes, a researcher at UT Southwestern Medical Center has found in an animal study. Mice with defective copies of the genes, called CLOCK and BMAL1, develop abnormalities in pancreatic cells that eventually render the cells unable to release sufficient amounts of insulin. Tweet

A fruit fly’s immune system can tell time, and how hard it punches back against infections depends on whether the fly is snoozing or cruising. The discovery could have implications for human health, well, says researchers at the Stanford University School of Medicine.
Working with jerry-rigged, light-bulb-laden shoeboxes to manipulate the flies’ daily cycle and with syringes small enough to inject measured amounts of germs into the wee winged ones, the investigators have shown that the insects’ immune response waxes and wanes with the diurnal oscillations called circadian rhythms.

Sleep deprivation may hamper a mother’s ability to care for her infant because judgment and concentration decline. Sleep-deprived mothers may also inadvertently compromise their infants’ sleep quality as infants often adopt their mothers’ circadian rhythms.

My life has been a long sleepy saga. I’ve lived a life constantly feeling sleepy. I was sleepy during my wedding. I was sleep during my honeymoon. I was sleepy when my children were born.
I managed to destroy to fulfilling careers without ever really getting to enjoy them because I was always sleepy. So sleepy, in fact, I would fall asleep while holding open houses. Other times I fell asleep while waiting for signals about commodity trades, including some worth from $200 million dollars and up.
